Mountain hike Valdresflya – Experience autumn's most beautiful peaks

Autumn is perhaps the best time to go hiking on Valdresflya. The air is fresh and clear, the nature glows in red, orange and yellow – and the mountains stand majestically against the blue autumn sky. Whether you are looking for a short and family-friendly hike, or a more airy summit hike with views of Jotunheimen, the area around Beitostølen offers endless possibilities.

Bitihorn – The icon on Valdresflya (1607 m above sea level)

Bitihorn is the hallmark of Beitostølen and Valdres, and one of the most popular peaks in the area. The hike is moderately demanding, but the view is worth every step. From the top you get a panoramic view of Jotunheimen and all of northern Valdres.

Length: approximately 4 km one way
Time required: approximately 2 hours up
Elevation: approx. 550 meters
Suitable for children from 6–7 years old

Practical information:
Follow the FV51 from Beitostølen for approx. 10 km to the parking lot on the left (fee via Vipps/cash). Follow the T-marked path – it is clear all the way and does not present any difficulties. Remember good shoes, a windproof jacket and preferably a hat – it can be windy at the top.

Synshorn – Short and airy hike with great reward (1464 m above sea level)

Length: 4.3 km round trip
Time required: approximately 2 hours
Elevation: 396 meters
Easy hike – suitable for most people

Synshorn is a perfect choice for those who want a shorter hike, but still want spectacular views. From the starting point, it only takes 45 minutes to reach the top in easy and nice terrain. Here you get great views west towards Bygdin and south towards Bitihorn.

If you have more time, you can follow the ridge further to Heimre Fagerdalshøe (1510 m above sea level) – a nice extension of the trip.

For the adventurous there is also Synshorn Via Ferrata , where you climb along the mountain wall secured with a rope. A spectacular experience that gives you real adrenaline and unforgettable views.

The echo - the quiet gem

Altitude: 1228 m above sea level
Time taken: less than 1 hour to the top

Urekkollen is a lesser-known peak at Haugseter Fjellstue , but offers fantastic views of Vinstervatnet and the mountains to both the east and west. The hike up is relatively short, taking under an hour, making it perfect as a quiet evening hike or an alternative when you want to avoid the more crowded peaks.

Here you get a feeling of peace and quiet – and often you have the mountain almost entirely to yourself.
